Forward Deployed AI Hacker, Intern

American Operator is hiring 5 summer interns for our Forward Deployed AI Hacker program. Exceptional performers may receive offers to join full-time.

This role blends management consulting and AI engineering. You will embed within our portfolio companies to identify high-impact opportunities and design, build, and deploy AI solutions that grow revenue, automate back-office functions, and improve margins. The internship will be based out of our headquarters in Austin, TX.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work directly with acquired businesses to understand operations, identify high-impact problems, and deliver AI-enabled solutions.

• Own the full solution lifecycle: discovery, scoping, prototyping, deployment, and iteration.

• Partner with operators and staff to map processes, define success metrics, and drive adoption.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with investments, engineering, and portfolio operations teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be currently enrolled as sophomores or juniors in an accredited undergraduate program studying Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.

• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript or Python.

• Experience building and deploying applications using Claude Code.

• Strong communication skills and executive presence.

• Working knowledge of financial statements (income statement, COGS, etc.).

• Willingness to travel up to 50%.
