Forward Deployed Engineer

Location: Dallas, Texas

Work Arrangement: Remote-First (US-based)

About the Role

FastBytes is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer on behalf of a leading AI infrastructure company scaling operations across multiple US data center markets. This is a high-impact, client-facing engineering role where you'll embed directly with customers to deploy, integrate, and operationalize AI/ML infrastructure at scale.

You won't be writing tickets from a back office. You'll be on the front linesβ€”working alongside customer engineering teams to get GPU clusters, training pipelines, and inference platforms into production. Fast.

What You'll Do

  • Deploy and configure AI/ML infrastructure (GPU clusters, high-performance networking, storage systems) in customer environmentsβ€”remotely and occasionally on-site
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact between the company and enterprise customers during implementation
  • Translate customer requirements into architecture decisions and deployment plans
  • Troubleshoot complex issues spanning hardware, networking, orchestration (Kubernetes, Slurm), and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX)
  • Build automation tooling, runbooks, and deployment scripts to accelerate future engagements
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to feed customer insights back into the platform
  • Deliver technical onboarding, training, and knowledge transfer to customer teams
  • Manage multiple concurrent deployments across different customer environments and timelines

What You Bring

  • 5+ years in a systems engineering, solutions engineering, infrastructure engineering, or similar hands-on technical role
  • Deep experience with Linux systems administration at scale
  • Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, BGP, VXLAN, RDMA/RoCE, InfiniBand)
  • Hands-on experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker) and/or HPC schedulers (Slurm, PBS)
  • Familiarity with GPU computing (NVIDIA A100/H100/B200, CUDA, NCCL)
  • Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure) and hybrid/on-prem deployments
  • Infrastructure-as-code proficiency (Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, or similar)
  • Scripting/automation skills in Python, Bash, or Go
  • Excellent communication skillsβ€”you'll be the face of the engineering team with customers
  • Self-directed and comfortable operating autonomously in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience deploying or managing large-scale ML training runs (distributed training, multi-node GPU)
  • Background in data center operations, colocation, or hyperscale environments
  • Familiarity with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) in infrastructure contexts
  • Prior experience in a forward deployed, solutions, or field engineering role at a startup or infrastructure company
  • Knowledge of high-performance storage systems (Lustre, GPFS, WekaFS, VAST)

Why This Role

  • Remote-First: Work from anywhere in the US with occasional travel for key deployments
  • Top-of-Market Compensation: $180K–$250K+ with equity and performance bonuses
  • Career-Defining Work: Deploy the infrastructure behind the most important technology shift in a generation
  • High Visibility: Direct customer exposure and influence on product direction
  • Growth Trajectory: Path to principal engineer, technical lead, or engineering management
