Enterprise productivity across Europe is under pressure. As complexity increases through geopolitical shifts, labour constraints, and tighter operational interdependencies, many organisations observe that AI and optimization efforts improve local efficiency but fail to deliver structural, enterprise-level gains.
At Superlinear, we work on this gap through enterprise orchestration: enabling better system-level decision-making across people, processes, and machines in environments where siloed optimization no longer works.
In our earliest pilots with leading European enterprises, we observe that moving from local optimization to coordinated, enterprise-wide decisions can unlock significant latent capacity. Productivity gains in the range of 10–30% are achievable by reducing systemic friction rather than adding infrastructure.
The 500 largest European enterprises represent roughly €14 trillion in economic output. Enabling even a fraction of them to structurally improve productivity would have impact beyond individual companies.
This is a long-term effort that requires rigor, restraint, and people who care deeply about their craft, take responsibility for outcomes, and are comfortable working on complex, high-stakes systems. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the foundations of enterprise orchestration in Europe’s most critical organisations.
That's why we are hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer with a focus on Optimization.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll work hands-on on the deployment of optimization-driven decision systems in real client environments. You’ll be closely involved in implementing, integrating, and running solutions that help organizations make better operational decisions.
You’ll work at the intersection of optimization, software engineering, and enterprise systems, supported by more senior engineers and deployment leads. This role is ideal for someone with a first professional experience who wants to grow into a strong delivery-oriented engineer.
Implement optimization models (e.g. planning, scheduling, allocation) as part of real production systems
Translate functional analyses into concrete technical implementations under guidance
Help ensure solutions are reliable, understandable, and usable by end users
Learn how to balance model quality with real-world constraints like data quality, runtime, and operational robustness
Build client-specific layers on top of Superlinear’s Autonomous Enterprise OS
Integrate data sources, APIs, and workflows into deployed solutions
Contribute to testing, documentation, and monitoring to ensure reliable deployments
Learn best practices for building maintainable systems that can scale
Collaborate with Deployment Strategists, other engineers, and product teams
Participate in discussions with client stakeholders to understand operational needs
Communicate progress, limitations, and trade-offs clearly
Learn how enterprise environments actually work and how decisions get made
Contribute to code reviews and learn from feedback
Share lessons learned from deployments with the team
Gradually take ownership of larger workstreams as your experience grows
Build deep understanding of Superlinear’s platform and deployment patterns
Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field
Around 2 years of experience in software engineering, applied optimization, or a similar role (including relevant internships)
First experience implementing analytical or optimization solutions in practice
Interest in real-world operational problems and decision-making systems
Basic to solid understanding of optimization techniques (e.g. LP, MILP, heuristics)
Good Python skills and willingness to grow as a software engineer
Familiarity with writing clean, tested code
Interest in APIs, data pipelines, and modern development workflows
Hands-on and eager to learn by doing
Comfortable asking questions and seeking feedback
Pragmatic: focused on getting things to work in the real world
Curious about how businesses operate and how technology can improve them
Motivated by impact, not just technical elegance
Internship or project experience in optimization or decision-support systems
Exposure to industrial or operational contexts (logistics, manufacturing, mobility, etc.)
Experience working in a team-oriented or client-facing environment
Interest in growing toward a more senior or specialized role over time
As a Forward Deployed Engineer (Optimization), your work directly impacts how organizations plan, schedule, and operate. You’ll help turn analytical ideas into systems that people actually use—reducing friction, improving coordination, and unlocking hidden capacity.
This role gives you a rare opportunity to learn optimization in the real world, not just on paper, and to grow into a strong engineer who understands both technology and operations.
Impact: Work on optimization solutions used in real, high-stakes environments
Ownership: Real responsibility from day one, with support and guidance
Growth: Strong learning curve and clear path to more senior responsibilities
Collaboration: Work closely with a tight-knit team in our Brussels office (next to Central Station)
Compensation: Competitive salary
Benefits: Comprehensive health insurance, group insurance, meal/eco vouchers, full transportation coverage, internet allowance, and additional Superlinear holidays
Tools: MacBook Pro, GitHub Copilot, and the best tools to do your job effectively
Team: Learn from experienced engineers in optimization, AI, and enterprise systems
If you’re excited to work on real systems, grow your skills fast, and see your work make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
