Lanai is building the first Enterprise AI Observability and Security platform, creating the missing infrastructure layer for the AI revolution. Our browser-based (to start) technology gives large enterprises unprecedented visibility into how AI is actually being used across the enterprise—down to the prompt level—solving critical challenges that no other platform can address.
At Lanai, you'll be tackling fascinating technical problems at the intersection of browser extension development, edge computing, and real-time data analysis. Our engineering challenges include detecting AI interactions across thousands of interfaces, building sophisticated local ML classification systems, and creating intuitive visualizations that make complex AI usage patterns immediately actionable.
Founded by technical leaders who built core infrastructure at Google, VMware, Meta and Splunk, we've raised capital from Lux Capital (Hugging Face, Databricks), Juxtapose, F7 Ventures, and BAG Ventures. Fortune 1000 companies are already deploying our technology to discover shadow AI, protect sensitive data, and optimize their AI investments.
Living our values enables us to foster trust, take risks, and achieve extraordinary results together:
Curiosity: Question openly, learn quickly, share knowledge
Community: Celebrate diversity, unite in purpose, practice empathy
Commitment: Maintain high standards, honor promises, focus on impact
Clarity: Communicate directly with care, bring focus to ambiguity
Located in Palo Alto, our highly-technical, nerdy (and nice!) small team brings together enterprise leaders from SignalFx, VMware, Google, and Meta. We're advised by industry leaders including Fredrick "Flee" Lee (CISO at Reddit), Raghu Raghuram (former VMware CEO), and Yvonne Wassenaar (former CIO of New Relic).
As our founding Solutions Engineer, you'll be a technical developer and experimenter who bridges our AI observability platform with enterprise customers' complex IT ecosystems. . This role is 50% customer-facing research, 50% engineering — you'll engage directly with customers to understand their deployment challenges, then engineer those learnings into automated capabilities within our platform. You'll code integrations, experiment with emerging AI technologies to enable better customer solutions, troubleshoot enterprise deployments, and guide customers through sophisticated security configurations.
Builder mindset — your goal is to engineer yourself out of manual deployment work by productizing solutions into our platform.
Customer interaction — we're not building in a vacuum. You'll actively research real customer needs in rapidly changing AI environments, then build scalable solutions that work across diverse organizational infrastructures.
Develop integration solutions — Must-have PowerShell and Bash (nice-to-have is Python) to automate enterprise deployments across MDM (Intune, JAMF), identity providers (Okta, EntraID), and PKI systems
Experiment with cutting-edge AI technologies — stay ahead of the curve by coding with the latest AI tools, models, and frameworks to understand how they impact enterprise security and enable better customer solutioning
Build deployment automation — create robust, scalable onboarding processes through code that work across Windows, macOS, and cloud environments, with the goal of eliminating manual deployment work
Architect custom integrations — develop solutions for complex enterprise security configurations, TLS certificates, endpoint and browser deployment, and policy management
Debug and troubleshoot — dive deep into packet analysis, Chrome debugging, and enterprise network configurations to solve customer issues
Lead technical POCs — code proof-of-concepts and demonstrations that showcase our AI observability capabilities to enterprise buyers
Productize solutions — transform manual processes and customer learnings into automated platform capabilities
Environment Flexibility Required: You'll need to be highly adaptable and comfortable working across:
Multiple cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Diverse operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
Various enterprise security tools and configurations
Emerging AI platforms and technologies
Customer environments requiring some travel for major deployments
What We're Looking For:
Must-Have Technical Foundation:
5-8+ years enterprise IT ecosystem experience — deep hands-on knowledge of MDM (Intune, JAMF), identity providers (Okta, EntraID), and PKI implementations
Strong coding abilities — proficient in Python, PowerShell, Bash scripting with ability to build integration solutions and automation tools
Cross-platform mastery — expert-level Windows and macOS environments with cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Endpoint and browser deployment expertise — deep understanding of enterprise endpoint management and browser-based security deployments
AI technology curiosity — enthusiasm for experimenting with cutting-edge AI tools and understanding how they enable better customer solutions and enterprise security implications
Builder mindset — drive to productize manual processes and engineer scalable solutions that eliminate repetitive deployment work
Flexible problem-solver — comfortable adapting to new environments, technologies, and customer requirements
Highly Valued Background:
0-to-1 security company experience — thrives in early-stage environments building foundational processes and solutions through code
Enterprise security pedigree — background at companies like CrowdStrike, Zscaler, Palo Alto Networks, or similar endpoint/browser security vendors
Browser expertise — Chrome/Edge enterprise policies, certificate deployment, and browser-based security controls
Customer-facing technical skills — proven ability to troubleshoot in customer environments and communicate complex technical concepts
Founding Engineer Ownership: Design and build critical systems from the ground up versus joining established companies where core architecture decisions are already made
Unmatched Financial Upside: Early equity in a SaaS AI governance and data analytics company with early exercise and Qualified Small Business Stock tax benefits
Exceptional Leadership Access: Work directly with co-founder/CEO Lexi Reese (Google, Gusto, Meta), co-founder/chairman Steve Herrod (original CTO of VMware, investor @ General Catalyst + Juxtapose), CTO Rajesh Raman (supported tech infra that took Meta/Google public before moving to SignalFX, Splunk) and CPO Mohit Mehta (Splunk, Nvidia)
Health, dental, and vision insurance
Unlimited PTO
Note: Research shows qualified candidates, especially from underrepresented groups, often hesitate to apply unless they meet 100% of listed qualifications. If you're excited about this role but don't check every box, we strongly encourage you to apply. We're committed to building a diverse team and would love to consider your unique background."
