We are DEUS EX MACHINA, a cutting-edge bioinformatics company specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Analytics. We leverage Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) alongside physics, bioinformatics, and ML in hybrid solutions that accelerate the analysis of food and biological data, contributing to life sciences with breakthroughs in nutrition, healthcare and petcare. At the core of our successful track record are our people, our commitment to clients, Fortune 100 organizations and startups, and our desire to make a positive impact through a creative, focused, and collaborative mindset.
About the role
Our platform is an operating system for the food value chain, optimizing formulation, sensory, shelf-life, nutrition, and regulatory outcomes across the pipeline. Adoption inside a large R&D organization succeeds or fails on one thing: how fast the customer’s own scientists start operating the platform on their real problems. The Forward Deployed Scientist owns that outcome. You embed inside a customer account, build the AI solution against their real problems and data, and work as a peer to their formulators, sensory leads, and reg teams until the platform is producing decisions they trust. This role demands deep domain expertise in food and life sciences, and the ability to build the AI solutions yourself. You are the person who understands the science well enough to be credible in the room and technical enough to make the model deliver on it. Every deployment you run has two products, the working solution the customer sees, and the reusable capability you push back into the platform so the next account starts ahead of where this one did.
What you will do
- Scope the customer’s real R&D problems with their scientists and translate them into something the platform can solve, before you build.
- Embed inside strategic accounts and own the relationship with the customer’s scientists as a technical peer who speaks their language.
- Build and deploy AI solutions, especially as part of our FIOS and LEAP platforms, against the customer’s real problems in formulation, sensory, shelf-life, nutrition, and regulatory analysis.
- Integrate with the customer’s LIMS, PLM, ERP, and scientific data systems, and configure and tune the models against their workflows.
- Show customers the model’s reasoning so they adopt a peer, not a black box.
- Enable the customer’s own scientists to operate the platform independently, so adoption sticks after you move to the next account.
- Compress time to first operational value inside each account, and drive it down account over account.
- Capture every custom thing you build into a productization backlog, and convert it into a shipped product with the product team.
What we are looking for
- Deep domain expertise in food science, nutrition, or a closely related life science: formulation, sensory, shelf-life, ingredient functionality, or regulatory. You have done this work or worked alongside those who do, and you are credible to senior R&D scientists.
- Strong coding skills, knowledge of latest architectures in agentic and traditional software systems, although not at the levels of a senior back-end developer.
- The ability to build AI and ML solutions yourself: you design, configure, tune, debug, and explain models, and you write the code to integrate them with real systems and data.
- Comfort embedding in a customer environment and owning an outcome end to end.
- Strong English and the ability to work with international customers and teams.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites.
Strong pluses
- A graduate degree in food science, pet/human nutrition, or a related field combined with hands-on ML/AI work.
- Prior experience as a product developer, forward deployed scientist, product manager for food/nutrition products with the use of computational tools.
- Experience integrating with LIMS, PLM, ERP, or scientific data systems.
- Publications or applied work at the intersection of food or life science and machine learning.
What success looks like
- The platform reaches operational value inside your account faster than the last deployment did.
- Customer scientists are actively running the platform on live problems, not logging in and leaving.
- A meaningful share of what you build custom this quarter ships as a product next quarter.
- The hours it takes you to bring each new account to value keep going down, because the platform is absorbing the work you did before.
