Forward Deployed Software Engineer (Exclusive)

Full-time | On-site | Austin, TX

About the Role

We’re hiring a Forward Deployed Software Engineer to integrate, deploy, and enhance cutting-edge autonomous systems in real-world operational environments.

This is a high-impact, high-intensity role—ideal for engineers who thrive at the intersection of software, hardware, and field deployment.

You’ll spend significant time testing systems in demanding conditions, working hands-on with autonomous platforms, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, mission-critical technology.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and refine autonomy and networking software, optimizing performance in live environments.

  • Deploy and test autonomous systems in the field, identifying and resolving real-world issues across autonomy, perception, and control.

  • Analyze mission data to drive continuous software and systems improvement.

  • Integrate new autonomy features, ensuring seamless interaction between sensors, compute, and vessel hardware.

  • Collaborate with operators and engineers to align performance with mission needs and customer feedback.

  • Troubleshoot complex issues across software, hardware, and networking layers during deployments.

  • Document and standardize best practices, deployment procedures, and debugging workflows.

  • Lead initiatives from design through deployment, including live demonstrations and customer field trials.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2–3 years of software development experience in robotics, autonomy, or embedded systems.

  • Strong proficiency in C++, Rust, or Python, with a deep understanding of Linux-based systems.

  • Experience working with networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP) and message-passing frameworks.

  • Exposure to computer vision, LiDAR, 3D object detection, or sensor fusion.

  • Familiarity with Kalman filters and real-time systems.

  • Hands-on experience debugging complex hardware/software integrations.

  • Comfortable with extensive travel (up to 50%+), long hours, and field deployments.

  • U.S. Person status required (citizen, green card holder, asylee, or refugee as defined by U.S. law).

Why Join

  • Work on frontline autonomous systems impacting real-world missions.

  • Operate in a fast-paced, hardware-meets-AI environment with tangible results.

  • Competitive pay with performance-based bonuses and meaningful equity.

  • Autonomy, ownership, and visibility across the entire deployment cycle.

Work Environment

  • Location: On-site in Austin (TX)

  • Travel: Up to 50% domestic/international field work

  • Schedule: Full-time, field-intensive (occasional nights and weekends)

  • Culture: Hands-on, mission-driven, and engineering-focused

Preferred Tech Stack

C++, Rust, Python, Linux, TCP/IP, UDP, Message-passing frameworks, Computer Vision (YOLO), LiDAR, 3D object detection, Sensor fusion, Kalman filter algorithms, ROS (with minimal dependency).
